Joshua 8
INTRO: Take your Bibles now this morning and turn with me to Joshua, chapter 8 if you would. This morning I want to share with you a very encouraging, but definitely challenging message on ''Reclaiming Lost Ground.''
ILLUS: I heard about a young girl that came running and crying to her preacher one day and said, ''Preacher, Preacher! I need you to pray for me because I've sinned.'' The preacher asked, ''What kind of sin could a young girl like you commit that's so bad that you'd come running and crying to me like this?'' She said, ''Pastor, I've committed the sin of vanity. Every morning when I get up and start getting ready for school, I'm always late because when I look at myself in the mirror I can't help but look at how beautiful I am and tell myself that I'm so very, very pretty.'' The Pastor looked back at that young girl and said, ''Honey, that's not a sin, that's a mistake.''
ILLUS: Henry Ford - ''a mistake is an opportunity to begin again, more intelligently.''
Joshua would have said ''Amen'' to that, because as we come to Joshua, chapter 8, he is about to ''begin again, more intelligently.''
Here's one of the main things I pray you learn from this morning's message: The key to success is learning to organize victory from your many mistakes.
ILLUS: Thomas Edison is said to have tried 1000 things before he successfully created the incandescent light bulb. When somebody asked him about those 1000 failures, he replied ''I haven't failed, I've only discovered 1,000 ways that don't work.''
Well, the Bible tells us that the same God that fought and won the battle of Jericho is now going to give Joshua the victory at the Second Battle of Ai.
Remember -
The book of Joshua was written to tell us how to be victorious.
The book of Joshua was written to detail for us how to have a strong, courageous faith.
