Obadiah 1 – Zachariah 14

Day 267 September 24 - Obadiah 1 and Jonah 1, 2, 3, and 4

Obadiah is one of four prophets that we know absolutely nothing about. The four were Obadiah, Habakkuk, Haggai, and Malachi. The name ''Obadiah'' means ''Servant of Jehovah.'' This man made no claims of anything besides serving the Lord and he surely lived up to his name.

Point to Ponder

We are not sure about the dating of this book, but we do know it was written with a prophetic implication against Edom, yet to be destroyed at that time. The little nation of Edom had mistreated God's chosen, judgment was coming.

Obadiah

I - Confirmed Ruination and Defeat (Obadiah 1: 1 - 16)

II - Complete Restoration and Deliverance (Obadiah 1: 17 - 21)

Jonah

I - Jonah Running From God (Jonah 1)

II - Jonah Running To God (Jonah 2)

III - Jonah Running With God (Jonah 3)

IV - Jonah Running Ahead of God (Jonah 4)

Point to Ponder

The prophet Jonah ministered during the reign of King Jeroboam II and he was unlike any other Old Testament prophet. Firstly his message was to be delivered in a Gentile nation, to a Gentile king. Secondly, he refused to deliver the message and rather chose to flee and forsake his commission.

Point to Ponder

I am not so sure many believers that are living today could speak against Jonah. It seems that many today are refusing to take the gospel to those without the church and like Jonah we have backslide on the Lord. This book has the flow of a child's book, yet it is profound and prosperous to any reader. Let us run with God and never from or ahead of God, as the prophet Jonah.
