Genesis 39:1-12
Temptation is defined as: enticement to do something wrong. It is deliberately trying to get someone to sin against God.
John Owen - ''Temptations and occasions (to sin) put nothing into a man, but only draw out what was in him before.'' Matthew 15:19 Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness and slander.
Temptations come in different forms as Satan tries to deceive us into sin by doing something God has said is wrong.
1. Material temptation - desire for things such as: clothes, a bigger house, better car or more children believing they will satisfy us.
2. Personal temptation - desire to control others or be famous
such as: becoming a movie star or politician or political leader.
3. Sensual temptation - desire to enjoy something that is morally wrong such as: sex outside of marriage or drugs to get high.

Potiphar - means ''Whom P'Ra (sun-god) has given.''It seems this name is really a title rather than a proper name.
Captain of the guard - in charge of prisoners of the king (:20). He held an important and significant position in Pharaoh's court.
Bought him - Joseph became Potiphar's slave. It must have seemed to Joseph that he would always be a slave but we know that God had a different plan for his life.
David McCasland - ''God's beginning for his servants often be bear little resemblance to the endings he has in mind.'' Psalm 105:16-17 God summoned a famine in the land . . . he sent a man ahead of Israel, Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
Application
Life is not always fair because people are unkind and unjust.
1. We may lose a job instead of getting one.
2. We may be penalized for refusing to compromise our faith.
3. We may be ostracized by our family for standing for the truth.
