GIFTS THAT ENDURE: COURAGE
II Tim. 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a
spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
I. WHAT FEAR DOES TO US: IT MAKES US...
Exo. 14:10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and
there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were
terrified and cried out to the LORD.
1. SKEPTICAL
Exo. 14:11a Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that
you brought us to the desert to die?
2. SELFISH
Exo. 14:11b What have you done to us by bringing us out of
Egypt?
3. STUBBORN
Exo. 14:12a Didn't we say to you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone; let
us serve the Egyptians'?
4. SHORTSIGHTED
Exo. 14:12b It would have been better for us to serve the
Egyptians than to die in the desert!"
II. COURAGE: TO STEP OUT IN FAITH FOR A REASON GREATER THAN SELF
I Cor. 16:13-14 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be
men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.
KINDS OF COURAGE......
1. PERSONAL COURAGE: TO BE VULNERABLE
Romans 12:3 Do not think of yourself more highly than you
ought.
Heb. 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.
Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to
whom we must give account.
Luke 18:13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would
not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, `God,
have mercy on me, a sinner.'
2. COMMITMENT COURAGE: TO BE VALUABLE
