Colossians 4:2-6
We are wrapping up our series in Colossians today. It has been quite a journey, some toes are a bit sore from being stepped on, we have a new wardrobe, we have tried to chop some wood! Let's take a look at the last part of Colossians we will be digging into for the series.
Colossians 4:2-6 (CSB)
2 Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us that God may open a door to us for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains, 4 so that I may make it known as I should. 5 Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.
As Paul is wrapping up the letter, he is now giving some final practical insight. And it is actually pretty simple, but has huge implications for the church in Colosse. That church, like ours here in Sugar Grove, is entrenched in a culture and society that is 'spiritual' but not necessarily 'Christian'. Surrounding the church are thousands who need to know the message, and it can be simply overwhelming! I know that there are times that I look around
at the hundreds of cars, the thousands of people, that I see daily, and it is breathtaking, and seemingly 'too much' to fully grasp. How many of these that I see have a true relationship with Jesus? How many are going through the motions of life? How many are carrying burdens that are crushing them? How many have 'tried' to do this Christian 'thing' but found it too hard to do by themselves? How many would respond if they were just given the chance to hear about who Jesus is? Our self-sufficient, frenetic, empty culture needs an interruption!
So, here is what Paul says to do as he wraps up...
