Jeremiah 30 - Jeremiah 50
Day 232 August 20 - Jeremiah 30 and 31
In chapter 30 we find a very trying time in the city of Jerusalem, due to King Nebuchadnezzar has besieged the city. The prophet Jeremiah has been incarcerated within the courts of the prison for seven years due to his vehement conflict with the false prophets. In the next few days the king will overtake the city, burn the temple, and conquer the land. In the previous chapters the false prophet Hananiah had falsely proclaimed that the mighty grip of Babylon would be removed within two years, therefore we know without a doubt that he was an evil man. This may have been the bleakest time in the entire ministry of Jeremiah. This humble prophet was broken for his love of these backsliders. In this book there are several occasions where the Lord tells Jeremiah to not be weeping. He was labeled as ''the crying prophet'' due to his deep love for his persecutors.
Point to Ponder
In the midst of all of this God is going to offer Jeremiah and Judah a word of hope and a future day of help. The Lord tells Jeremiah to write all of this down in a book, which is something that God fully enforces, he is the God of documentation and evidence. The prophet's voice had clearly been heard and they knew that peace had vanished and perplexity was within and without. In chapter 30: 6 - 7, we read of the time of ''Jacob's Trouble.'' This is what we call ''The Day of the Lord'' which is the ''Great Tribulation.''
I - The Grievous Affliction and Pain (Jeremiah 30)
II - The Glorious Affirmation and Promise (Jeremiah 31)
Point to Ponder
In chapter 31 we find the words ''I will'' fifteen different times and they are spoken by the Lord. This is the ''I will'' chapter of the bible. The Lord is verifying what he will do for the nation of Israel.
Point to Ponder
The verification of those ''I will's ...
