Day 225 August 13 - Jeremiah 4, 5, and 6

In Jeremiah chapter 3:10 we are told that Judah had not turned unto the Lord with her whole heart. The nation was experiencing an outward reformation but not an inward transformation. This was during the reign of King Josiah and at this time they had not yet discovered the word of God. The people were offering sacrifices but not from their heart it was merely routine and ritual. If all we have is routine and ritual we are backslidden like the nation of Israel. We live in an age where even the expectation of revival has fallen to the wayside. In the past many churches would at least act like they were having a ''revival'' by having a series of services and hanging up a sign. In the end most of those were merely outward attempts of observing routines and rituals. In time those were proven to be of no value and most churches do not even try any more.

Point to Ponder

In chapter four the prophet tells Israel to have true revival they must break up the fallow ground. The hard ground must be broken up and true conviction needs to plow up and down our hearts. Israel placed confidence in the ritual of outward circumcision but God wanted them to circumcise their hearts. The heart of a person must turn to the Lord.

Point to Ponder

The Lord wanted Judah to run to and fro and look for someone that was living righteously and if they found one person, God would pardon the entire nation. The nation was engrained in adultery and sin was running rampant. The USA is much like the kingdom of Judah; they yearn for the pleasure of sin.
