1 Corinthians 6:12
1 Cor. 6:12-Paul said: ''Everything is permissible for me-but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me-but I will not be mastered by anything.''
1.0 Food is Not Our Master! Jesus is!
1.1 To be mastered means: to be brought under the power of; to be enslaved by; dominated by; or something makes free with you.
1.2 Food addiction is real. According to Food Addicts Anonymous, there are four areas the symptoms of addiction show up.
A) Physical Symptoms
1. You've started using laxatives, diuretics, or vomiting to avoid weight gain after eating a lot.
2. You keep searching and trying different diets; but to no avail.
Story: The boy who wanted chicken fingers for breakfast
B) Emotional Symptoms
1. Do you find yourself feeling depressed, hopeless, sad or ashamed about your eating or your weight?
2. Do you eat when you are upset or reward yourself with food when you do something good?
C) Social Symptoms
1. Do you eat in private so no one will see you?
2. Do you avoid social interactions because you feel you do not look good enough or do not have the proper fitting clothes to wear?
D) Spiritual Symptoms of Food Addiction
1. Do you pray and ask God to help you with your weight, and feel your prayers aren't being answered?
Note: Just because you struggle with your weight does not mean that you're a food addict. But, you must be mindful that the longer the struggle the more you're slowly becoming mastered by food or self-destructive behavior. This is not God's will or a reflection of a high quality of life.
