Heaven Is for Real
David Ireland
Revelation 21:21-27; 22:1-5
1.0 Immortality is on People's Minds.
1.1 The word heaven is found 582 times in the King James Version of the Bible.
Joe Louis said: ''Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.''
Perspective
(1) The Apostle John was thrown on the penal colony of Patmos. There he had a vision-a picture-of what heaven looks like and the activities that occur there.
(2) The Book of Revelation helps us to see and understand how God plans to bring times of trouble to an end. It explains why the righteous suffered and why the kingdom of God delayed. It gives us a picture of the future-life after death.
(3) Heaven is an exclusive place of beauty, of life, service, worship, and glory to God.
Why Should I Believe Heaven is for Real?
2.0 Why Should I Believe in Heaven?
2.1 Eternity is in our hearts.
A) We have an instinct for immortality.
Quote: It has been said that when God wishes to impress a truth on His children, He plants his arguments in the instincts.
B) We have innate yearnings for answers concerning the possibility of an afterlife.
Example: Hollywood capitalizes on our yearnings about the afterlife by making films like:
- Son of God, grossing $67MM
- Noah, $359MM
- Eternity is in Our Hearts!
- The Passion of the Christ, $371MM
- Heaven is for Real, $91MM
- 90 Minutes in Heaven, $5MM released in Sept. 2015
Some suppress or ignore the notion about eternity like Thoreau.
Henry David Thoreau while on his deathbed was asked about the afterlife and the welfare of his soul. He said: ''I'm not interested in questions on immortality. One world at a time-that's my motto. Do the duty that lies close at hand here and don't worry about the hereafter.''
Eternity is in Our Hearts!
Why Should I Believe Heaven is for Real?
