1.0 The Search For Happiness (Eccl. 3:1-13)!
1.1 Americans: The Declaration of Independence proclaims, ''the pursuit of happiness'' as one of the great American ideals.

- The search for happiness is common to all: Story: The Philosophical Approach to Tail Chasing;

Fact: Dennis Wholey, author of Are You Happy? reports that according to expert opinion, perhaps only 20 percent of Americans are happy.

- Happiness is bigger than money, fame, sexual conquests, etc.

Fact: Madonna has made a career of self-indulgent behavior and is one of the wealthiest people in show business. In an interview a couple of years ago, she was asked if she was happy and her response was: ''I don't even know anybody who is happy!''

1.2 The Bible establishes that God wants us to enjoy life:

John 10:10-''The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.''

1 Peter 1:8-''Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,''

Philippians 4:12-''I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.''
