1.0 It's Time to Read the Bible (Psalm 1:1-6) P. 383.

About the Bible...Jay Leno frequently does a ''man-on-the-street'' interview, and one night he collared some young people to ask them questions about the Bible. ''Can you name one of the Ten Commandments?'' he asked two college-age women. One replied, ''Freedom of speech?'' Mr. Leno said to the other, ''Complete this sentence: Let he who is without sin...'' Her response was, ''have a good time?'' Mr. Leno then turned to a young man and asked, ''Who, according to the Bible, was eaten by a whale?'' The confident answer was, ''Pinocchio.''

1.1 The Bible requires interpreting.

A) A 2014 survey by the American Bible Society reports that 37 percent of Americans read the Bible once a week or more.

B) The Bible is comprised of 66 separate books divided into two ''testaments''-Old and New which were written over a period of 1,500 years. A testament is a document disclosing the will of a person, a contract, an agreement, or a covenant between two parties. The Old Testament totals 39 books featuring the dealings of God with the Hebrew people.

C) The New Testament totals 27 books revealing the fulfillment and unmasking of the Old Testament. It gives the record of the promises, agreements, or contracts between God and man, showing the privileges, blessings, and requirements of the gospel through Jesus Christ-the Redeemer of the world.

1.2 My topic today is: How to Read the Bible? I will provide four rules.

2.0 Four Rules on How to Read the Bible.
Rule #1: Take a God-Centered Perspective.
A) The Bible reveals information about God.
1. We learn that God is Faithful, Love, Truth, Wonderful, Counselor, Comforter, and a Redeemer.
