1.0 RESET Your Parenting-It's Time!
1.1 Press the RESET button on iPads, etc. when:
A) The device freezes; or when you want to restore it to factory setting.
B) We're in a series entitled, Reset. We're learning how to reset our mission and our families. Today, let's talk about how to RESET Your Parenting.
1.2 Families are different nowadays.
A) The traditional family is rare today. According to the Pew Research Center 46% of kids live in a traditional family.
B) The 54% of kids are living in some type of non-traditional, single-parent, or blended family structure.
Fact: According to the Bonded Family Research Group-a national organization that helps blended families become successful, there are 2,100 new blended families formed EVERY DAY in America. Over 65% of Americans are now a stepparent, a stepchild, a stepsibling, step-grandparent or touched directly by a stepfamily scenario.
C) Despite your family's structure, with kids in the home, the Bible provides a timeless plan to help you RESET Your Parenting.
2.0 If Allowed to Speak, Children Would Say:
2.1 I need a PARENT (Eph. 6:1-4).
A) Parenting is one of the hardest jobs you'll ever undertake.
B) Babies come into the world with no instructions.
1. They are complex-having their own feelings, moods, personality, and passions.
2. The complexity is also seen in that one method of parenting may not work equally well on all of your children.
C) Good kids are a product of good parenting.
1. Children need and deserve your personal engagement as a parent.
i. Don't let the internet be a surrogate parent to your kids.
i. Don't let the TV parent your child!
iii. Don't let your child parent themselves because of your emotional disconnect or your own distractions.
