Genesis 2:22-24
1.0 Marriage is Hard Work (Gen. 2:22-24)!
Genesis 2:22-24-''22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, ''This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of man.'' 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.''
1.1 Marriage is God's idea!
A) It seemed easy for God to create and marry off Adam and Eve. Doesn't it?
B) But walking out marriage is hard work!
C) Husbands and wives are very different.
1. We have different perspectives.
2. We have different personalities.
D) Marlinda and I are no exception. We are very different from each other.
1. I like my sandwiches cut. She likes hers uncut.
2. At a restaurant, I order ice water with no lemon. She asks for hot water with lemon.
3. She's a quiet sleeper. I can sleep through a thunder storm.
4. I like hot foods even in the summer. She doesn't.
5. Marlinda is serious. I'm a comedian.
6. I hate small talk; she's okay with it.
My wife and I are different, but we have the same Creator. We're made of the same stuff and we want the same things-to be valued, accepted, and experience true companionship.
2.0 This is Us-We're Different!
2.1 We Communicate differently!
A) Men compartmentalize and women interconnect.
B) Men compartmentalize!
1. Men tend to focus on one thing at a time.
2. We place each subject and the emotions in a separate compartment. The kids, messy garage, mother-in-law, or wife have their own box. The issues stand alone.
3. Men tend to tell their wives just the facts. No more, no less.
i. Anything more is like pulling teeth. We don't want to do it.
ii. We don't think you need to hear anything else. That's enough.
C) Women mentally interconnect.
