Day 197 July 16 - Proverbs 10, 11, and 12

In chapter 10 we find King Solomon telling us that a wise son makes his father glad but a foolish son makes his mother sorrowful. I wonder if Solomon thought back to the story of his father's adulterous relationship with his mother. Maybe Solomon had heard about all of the grief that had been caused when his father and his mother united together in marriage after the murdering of Uriah the Hittite. It is possible that Solomon was thinking about hearing the story of his dead sibling due to God cursing the birth of his brother because of the sin of David and Bathsheba. King Solomon may have been thinking about how Amon raped his half-sister, Tamar. He may have thought about the time when Absalom had taken Amnon on a camping trip and killed him for raping their sister.

Point to Ponder

The proverbs of King Solomon are very relevant and applicable to the reader in today's age. We should realize that living in wisdom will minimize bring grief upon our moms and dads. The son or daughter that strives to live a life for the Lord that yearns for wisdom will be a child that brings honor and happiness to their parents. The child that refuses wisdom and walks according to selfish lusts will bring much grief to their parents.

Point to Ponder

The wise saint will conduct his or her daily affairs with the utmost integrity and truthfulness. There is nothing more damaging to ones testimony than being dishonest in the daily life that we live. People are watching us and if we lie, if we cheat, if we cut corners, they will despise the very life we live.
