OPENING: We are in a series we are calling, ''In Light of the Cross'' where we are looking at how God uses the truth of the Gospel to bring about lasting life change in our lives.
This week we want to look at an OT allusion to the Gospel and show the powerful effect an encounter with Christ had on one man named Isaiah. What happens when a man comes face to face with God?
All week our area has been flooded with luxury cars from around the world. But not only that - everyone has suddenly become amateur paparazzi.
Jerry Seinfeld, John Travolta, Jay Leno someone even mentioned seeing Snoop Dogg a couple of years ago.
Have you ever met someone famous? It has an effect on you. It's never had a very good effect on me. I inevitably say or do something stupid.
A few years ago Julie and I were attending a conference in Chicago where Tim Keller, one of my favorite Pastor's was preaching. Now he's not famous by most people standards, but he's Christian famous. He's written some very influential books and planted a very influential church in NYC. To me he's a really big deal.
Well just after the evening session we were returning to our room and Keller and his entourage stepped into the elevator the same time we did. Now, Julie knows my track record and she knows that I've vowed never to speak to guys like that. But this is Tim Keller! He's 3 ft away. So I took a deep breath and said, ''Dr. Keller, I just want to thank you for this conference we've really enjoyed it''. He said, ''Well thank you very much!''. It went well! I survived, I didn't stutter, I didn't embarrass myself or Julie. All was right in the world! The elevator stopped at the 5th floor which Julie and I were on. I got off and turned a hard left - and ran right into the wall.
