He Would Not Cast Stones? (2 of 4)
Series: What Would Jesus NOT Do??
Tony Thomas
John 8
Duck Dynasty is a reality TV-series that appeared on AandE for eleven seasons. It's the highest-rated cable series of all time. Phil Robertson is the main character and the head of the family business, Duck Commander, and the Robertson's manufacture and sell duck calls.
All of the Duck Dynasty guys are known for their long beards and strong convictions. Every show includes prayer, they attend a very conservative Church of Christ.
My favorite character is Si Robertson, Phil's brother. Si is a Viet Nam veteran who retired in 1993. His favorite word is ''Jack!'' Like, ''Don't you be talkin' back to me, Jack!'' Or, ''Who took my green cup, Jack?'' Si drinks sweet tea from a green Tupperware cup his mother sent him in Viet Nam.
Did you know that Si Robertson likes to sign autographs? His autograph includes John 3:16-17. Why? ''Everybody knows 16 ... 'For God so loved the world,' but they don't know nothin' about 17!''
John 3 ...
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
We're in a new series called What Would Jesus Not Do. WWJD is an acronym that's been around since 1896 when Charles Sheldon wrote his book, ''What Would Jesus Do?'' WWJD is a moral imperative for us to act like Jesus. We're adding one word to the acronym - WWJND: What Would Jesus Not Do?
Last week we said that Jesus Would Not Bypass Opportunities. For example, ''Jesus had to go through Samaria'' (John 4:4). Jesus sat at Jacob's Well and waited for a Samaritan woman to draw water so he could engage her in a conversation. When that woman believed, she changed her village!
This week we're in John 8 and we're considering a second story. Like the Samaritan woman in John 4, the woman caught in adultery in John 8 is familiar because of her past. When she stood before Jesus to be condemned, he decided to not cast stones!
