We've been learning through the book of Philippians that living a joyful life doesn't require carrying a light cross. True joy doesn't by having the best circumstances. It comes by having the best God. We started this series by defining joy as:
The Assurance of my soul that God is completely in control of all things...
the Attitude of my heart that everything ultimately will be okay...and
the Ability of my mind to praise God in every situation I encounter.
Today we're going to see that godly joy abounds by living a life worthy of the Gospel. You've heard the term paradigm shift, right? No, it's not when two silver coins are moving around in your pocket. That's a pair of dimes. A paradigm: is a way of thinking or believing that dictates the way we operate in culture and live life.
So, a paradigm shift is a major change in what you believe, which changes how you think, and then how you live. For example...
For centuries it was believed that the sun revolved around the earth. Then Copernicus came along and proved that the earth actually revolves around the sun. A major paradigm shift took place that changed thoughts and beliefs about the solar system.
The same thing happened with Christopher Columbus. Before Columbus, everyone believed the earth was flat. But voyages of Columbus helped prove that the earth is round. This led to a major paradigm shift... a radical change in our beliefs about the shape of the earth.
A huge paradigm shift took place in government when we moved from an English monarchy, in which one person ruled and the people existed for the leader, to an American democracy with a government of the people, for the people, and by the people. Democracy was a new way of thinking about government, which led to a new way of leading a nation.
But the ultimate paradigm shift of all time is found in our text today. It's when God, through ...
