Funeral from Psalm 23

Psalm 23
As I was thinking about Joyce's life, her faith, and a Scripture to read, a passage came to my mind that Joyce read many, many times. Ps. 23 (READ).
When we belong to God...
1. God's Goodness is watching over us.
David tells us that goodness follows us all the days of our lives. Now we know that doesn't mean that everything that happens to us will be good in and of itself. Bad things do happened. But it does mean that God will use everything that happens to us for our good. This is what the N.T. tells us in Romans 8:28 that says, ''And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.'' Death is not a good thing. But through death we are ushered directly in the presence of God. It's not good that you've lost a member of your family, but God promises to be with you and walk with you and see you through this. That is good.
When I was a boy my dad would lead our church to say every Sunday ''God is good all the time and all the time God is good.'' And it's true. Ps. 52:1 says, ''The goodness of God endures continually.''
The problem many times is we take God's goodness for granted. And we fail to realize just how good God is, and how every single day that we open our eyes and take a breath of air we benefit from the goodness of God.
I heard about a dad who was getting fed up with all the materialism in his home and began to see how spoiled his children were. So, he decided to sit them down for one of those fatherly talks. He said, ''Kids, you don't realize how good you have it. Why, when I was a boy I had to get up before daylight to deliver newspapers. I walked to school in the rain and in the snow. I then worked at a grocery store after school every day, and even then, we didn't always have enough to eat.'' Well those kids' eyes were as big as coconuts and they were in awe of what their dad had told them. The dad felt pretty good ...
