Funeral from John 3:16

John 3:16
There is a promise of God to people who love Him that is so sweet in moments like this:
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. There are two parts to ever person: a temporary body and a permanent soul. And this promise reminds us that while bodies may die, souls do not. And God says those who love Jesus and trust in Jesus will be with Him forever.
What that means is that Gabriel has never been more alive than he is this very moment. He's never been happier, healthier, freer than in this very moment. Gabriel's body died. But Gabriel didn't die. He has received the promise give to him long ago: 'To be absent from his body is to be present with the Lord.' That's why we can have hope and joy today even though it's difficult and painful. Yes, it's right and even good to grieve. But even as we grieve, we can still rejoice knowing WHERE he is and WHO he's with this very moment.
I had the privilege to sit down with Gabriel's parents and siblings a few days ago. I enjoyed listening insights about who he was and what he did from people who knew him best. And one of the things I'm very appreciative of is that they didn't sugar-coat reality. They didn't talk about Gabriel as if he was just a little lower than Jesus. They were extremely loving and extremely real.
Everyone agreed there was a ''good'' Gabriel and a ''bad'' Gabriel.
Good Gabriel: Passionate, funny, loyal, extroverted, hard-working, fearless, strong, tender, generous. The good Gabriel adored children, especially his own. The good Gabriel loved to be around people and would do anything to make people laugh and feel good. But there was another side of him.
Bad Gabriel: Struggled with selfishness, anger, addiction, anxiety, and fear. The bad Gabriel did things that not only hurt him, but deeply hurt those who were closest to him. Truth is we're all like Gabriel in that we all have some things that are good...and we all have some ...
