There is a beautiful thread that runs through everything that has been done and will be done in this service celebrating Chad's life. And I want to make sure none of you miss it. That thread woven throughout this whole service is called HOPE.

You heard it in the Scriptures read. You heard it in the songs that were sung. You heard it vividly in Kari shared. Particularly at the end when she said to her beloved brother:

''Bye for now but not for always. I'll be seeing you soon.''

You know what that's called? That's called Hope! Now, this is not your average, run of the mill, everyday hope that you can find just about anywhere. This hope is Christian hope. This hope is biblical hope. You ask how is this hope different than any other? Well, often we will say things like...

''I hope I get a raise this year.''

''I hope my marriage gets better.''

''I hope my retirement doesn't run out.''

''I hope Pastor Bob doesn't speak too long.''

Of course, that's fantasy, not hope. But you get the idea. We often use hope more as wishing, but not really expecting. But that's the exact opposite of what the bible means by hope.

When the bible speaks of hope it's not referring to something that's a possibility, but rather to something that's a certainty. It's not something that could happen, but something that will happen. Biblical hope is a sure thing because of Who it is relies upon.

Hebrews 10:23: ''Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.'' Hope is believing and holding tightly to the promises God has made to those who love Him. When the writer says God is faithful, he means God keeps His promises every single time. Whatever promise you find in the Bible, you can be sure God is going to keep it. So we are encouraged to hold on to them.
