Going All the Way with God
Steve N. Wagers
Luke 2: 7; John 19:25-27
Several years ago, a 9 inch model of Jesus, as a baby, appeared in department stores all across the country. The doll was packaged in a straw and satin crib with a picture of the Bethlehem manger and appropriate Biblical texts. This doll, which was charted to be one of the hottest selling items of that Christmas season, was not a success at all. As a matter of fact, retailers, in an attempt to boost the sales, went and slashed the prices on this doll to make it more appealing to buyers.
In fact, one store, in Oklahoma City, cut the price of the doll 50% of the suggested retail price. So, one woman, who was doing her last minute Christmas shopping and who was comparing prices in various stores, after seeing the mark down of the price, looked to her neighbor and said, ''Look, they've marked Jesus down 50%.''
We live in a culture which has tried its best to discount, discredit, and dishonor Jesus Christ. Yet, the fact remains, every person that observes the Christmas season, whether they realize it or not, is paying homage to the Christ of Christmas.
Every tree that is decorated points to the Tree atop Mt. Calvary.
Every light that is lit points to the Light of the World.
Every gift that is exchanged points to the greatest gift ever given, called salvation.
Every carol that is sung points to the 1st Christmas carol sang by a heavenly host.
Every ounce of holiday cheer that is experienced points to Jesus, the Joy of the World.
I love Christmas. The older I get, the more the TRUE meaning resonates in my soul.
God stepped OUT of Himself to BECOME Himself without ever ceasing to BE Himself
We couldn't get to Him, so HE CAME TO US
The CRADLE brings God to man
The CROSS brings man to God
The Prophets ACKNOWLEDGED It
The Angels ANNOUNCED It
Jesus ACCOMPLISHED It
Mary CONCEIVED the Promise
Joseph BELIEVED the Promise
Jesus ACHIEVED the Promise
