I had completely forgotten that the bill was due. I received a courtesy call to let me know that payment had not been made. As polite as I could I kindly let the agent know that I take pride in paying my bills on time, and this one was no different. She politely reminded me that, regardless of what I had always done, this bill had not been paid.
I went to look through my checkbook, and other paperwork, and to my dismay, she was right. The bill had gone unpaid, and the due date was past. I begged her for mercy, promised my first born to her if she would not discontinue service, and that I would pay it immediately.
I'll never forget her words, ''Mr. Wagers, this is simply a courtesy call. We value you as a customer, and you are still well within your 15-day grace period.''
When she said that, the Holy Ghost flipped the breaker in my soul and reminded me of an even greater grace period, that lasts far longer than just 15 days. It's the period God's amazing grace.
A. W. Tozer said, ''Grace is the good pleasure of God that inclines Him to bestow benefits upon the undeserving. Its use to us sinful men is to save us and make us sit together in heavenly places to demonstrate to the ages the exceeding riches of God's kindness to us in Christ Jesus.''
I have heard many definitions of the grace of God, but none greater than one I heard Evangelist Tom Hayes give many years ago:
GRACE IS ANYTIME GOD LOOKS OUR WAY
Mercy: God HOLDS BACK what we do Deserve
Grace: God HANDS OVER what we don't Deserve
Mercy is God canceling your debt.
Grace is God adopting you into his family, adding your name to his bank account, and giving you stock options in the family business.
