I Thessalonians 4:13-5:11
Wow, you all sound really good! Well, if you have a bible turn to I Thessalonians 4. If you are a guest with us today and don't have a bible come see me or one of the other pastors after the service and we'll give you a free bible, ok? We want you to have a copy of God's Word.
Now almost every children's story you read from THE THREE LITTLE PIGS to the BERENSTEIN BEARS to CINDEREALLA to SNOW WHITE and the SEVEN DWARFS they all have pretty much the same ending, don't they? And the ending goes like this...and they all lived happily ever after. And we love that. There is something wonderful, we might even say something magical, about those words. If the truth be told that's what every single one of us strives for and hungers for and lives for. We crave to live happily ever after. People spend a lot of money, do a lot of dumb things, put out a lot of energy to trying live happily ever after.
Well God's book, God's story, the Bible, pretty much ends the same way as those children's stories. In essence it says, and they, meaning those who love Jesus and placed their faith in Him, they will live happily ever after. The question is after what? After this life is over. You see, the bible teaches very boldly and bluntly that there is coming a moment when time on this earth will run out.
God is going to pull an Arnold Swartznegger and He's going to say to the earth 'Hasta Lavista baby'. God says where you are right now and what you see right now is only temporary. That's why it's dumb to give your life to the stuff you can see. There is coming a time when it's all going to be gone. Life on this earth as we know it will be over. And God is going to create a new heaven and a new earth. And He's going to wipe out all of the sin, all of the pain, all of the hurts, all of the tears, and all of the fears that we have right now.
