Journey Through the Bible Week 24 (24 of 52)
Series: 365 Day Journey Through the Bible

Job 35- Palms 25
Day 162 June 11 - Job 35, 36, and 37
Elihu is now going to address the problem that Job failed to grasp. In chapter 35 Job is a student and God is the teacher. Job had declared that he right and that God had made a mistake. If we are suffering undeservingly, then God has made a grave mistake somewhere along the way. Of course we all know that none of us are without sin and Job had grossly misspoke in saying that he was right and that God was wrong. In verses 5 and 6 Job tries to minimize his sin and justify that it does not affect God. Sin does affect God and it most assuredly affects mankind, if you do not think this is true go and ask Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, and Ishmael. The Middle East is still suffering for that sin and it truly does affect God.
Point to Ponder
I like the little phrase ''songs in the night.'' There are many times in our lives that we have experienced those ''songs in the night.'' One of the notable traits in the life of Job during his suffering was that sleep had often fled from his life. How many of us have experienced nights of insomnia and restlessness? It is during those nights that we need to find the one that gives ''songs in the night.'' It seems that when we need to most rest and peace of mind is when those oft long nights rise up and sleep flees. The very God of this vast universe and the creator of the heavenly constellations can reveal his tender presence and give us a peaceful and pleasant ''song in the night.''
I - The Chosen Student (Job 35)
II - The Communication Shortage (Job 36)
III - The Coming Storm (Job 37)
Point to Ponder
Elihu has been making a very good argument on the behalf of God and his uprightness and his infinite knowledge. He mistakenly thinks that God is so far away that mankind cannot communicate with him. Elihu was so wrong.
