To this I would add:
Increase Spiritual Fervor!
I think for the first year in a long time, I am taking very seriously this idea of a fresh start when it comes to some aspects of my life. I would agree with the general desire of the first 5, and certainly long for this 6th one to be on the hearts and minds of us as followers of Christ. The first 7 days have been successful!
I haven't gained any weight.
I can find my keys
And I feel God is doing something new in me for sure!
For many, the start of the new year does equal an opportunity to 'start' new things. But I think that most often, we start new things, only to have them 'un-start' way too quickly, and then discouragement sets in, we forget the promises we made internally, and the frustration with ourselves can grow.
I think that this is also most prevalent in the spiritual resolutions that we make for ourselves. For some, reading through the Bible or a portion of it is high on the priority list. To increase the amount of time invested in praying can be on that list as well. Attend church more regularly. Get involved in a small group, get kids involved, volunteer my spouse for more things to help me get more involved! Then January 2nd hits, we forgot to pick up the Bible, fell asleep trying to pray longer, kids are still grumpy, and your spouse doesn't appear to appreciate your thoughtful volunteerism! So, for some here today, the biggest picture is not necessarily that of STARTING something new, but in actuality it is:
RE-Starting.
And restarting can be a hard thing to do. Especially if this is a pattern in your life. It would certainly be easier to put aside the desire and settle for the status quo. But I think that we have some pretty secure ground to discover about starting again, ...
