2 Kings 6- 2 kings 25
Day 113 April 23 - 2 Kings 6, 7, and 8
In chapter six we see some wonderful miracles that are once again performed by Elisha. The sons of the prophets are once again gathered unto the man of God and they are in need of a much bigger building to house everyone. The sons of the prophets were merely a training school for those that would become fully fledged prophets of God. The men decide to go down to the river and cut down some trees and one of the men had borrowed him an axe and as he was cutting the head came loose and fell into the river. Elisha cuts down a stick and throws it into the water and the axe head floated. The illustration here is that for us to stay close to the Lord we must see to the small details of life. The man allowed his ''wedge'' to come out and when it came out, the axe head fell off into the river. You must stay ''wedged in'' to stay close to the Lord.
Point to Ponder
There are many people that want to see big things happen in their Christian life but they are not willing to take care of the small things. One must pray, read the bible, attend God's house, and strive to live right, and this helps to ensure that we are completely wedged in. When you fail to pray that is when the tiny wedge becomes loose. If you stop reading your bible the wedge loosens more and more and then you end up in a swamp and wonder what went wrong.
I - The Floating Lead (2 Kings 6)
II - The Four Lepers (2 Kings 7)
III - The Famine Lifts (2 Kings 8)
Point to Ponder
The four lepers are a beautiful portrait of the sin of not telling others about how good the Lord has been to us. The men went down to the enemies camp and found food, garments, and riches, but rather than rushing to the city to tell everyone that was hungry and starving, they merely hide their spoil and went from tent to tent and done the same thing ...
