Scripture: GENESIS 42:6-28

WHEN GOD PURSUES A PERSON
Genesis 42:6-28

Have you ever had a pet that refused to come to
you when you called and you had to constantly chase it
and pursue it in order to keep it where it belonged?
Or do you perhaps have a kid like that?

Ex. I saw a mother call her little preschooler in a department
store. When she called he just chuckled and took off the
other direction. She would chase a while but he kept
outrunning her. She would call a while, "Johnny please
come to Mamma." She would command a while, "Johnny you
get over here right now." She would coerce a while,
"Johnny I'll buy you a toy if you come." Then she would
chase a while.

Ex. I have a Beagle dog. He is a wonderful pet, he thinks
he's a person. He's very smart, but when he gets out of
our fenced yard he loves to run off. Calling does no
good, he just puts his head down and takes off like he
doesn't even hear me. I'll chase him, he'll stop and,
just when I'm within inches of him, he'll take off again.
So the chase is on over hill and dale until one of us
gives out or gives up. The other day he ran away and
got ran over by a car.

That is a good picture of what God is doing in some of
your lives today. God is pursuing you and seeking you.

The story of Joseph and how he dealt with his
brothers who had mistreated him, abused him and sinned
against him by selling him into slavery is a beautiful
picture of how God deals with us when He is trying to
win us to Himself. Twenty-two years after his
brothers sold him as a slave Joseph began the process
of loving his brothers back into fellowship with
himself and God.

As we read Genesis 42:6-28, want us to learn
what happens when God pursues a person.
