2 Samuel 16 - 1 Kings 9
Day 99 April 9 - 2 Samuel 16, 17, and 18
David and his entourage are in hiding and as they are maneuvering their way to the wilderness one of his critics is found following him, cursing him, and hurling rocks at him. Shimei was related to King Saul and he still had harsh feeling towards David and his reign. One of David's men wanted to go and slay the loudmouthed rock thrower but David would not allow it. He said that his very own son was trying to kill him and even more so this relative of Saul. David was a man of much patience and was honorable in his dealings with others, of course except for Uriah the Hittite. The king was not always trying to throw his weight around but displayed meekness and humility in dealing with others. That is a trait that we all need to add to our repertoire.
Point to Ponder
David was very wise in not allowing all of his faithful followers to exit the palace with him. There are truly only a few people that one can trust with their very lives and David had a few. He was placing his very life in their hands and in their ability to infiltrate the dealings of his son, Absalom.
