Journey Through the Bible Week 13 (13 of 52)
Series: 365 Day Journey Through the Bible
Donald Cantrell
Ruth 1- 1 Samuel 20
Day 85 March 26 - Ruth 1, 2, 3, and 4
The book of Ruth is my favorite book in the bible. It is a story of suspense, tragedy, love at first sight, and it builds up from chapter to chapter and ends on a wondrous crescendo of love and victory. The family of Elimelech left Bethlehem in the midst of a mighty famine and go fifty miles to the land of Moab. This was not a lengthy journey but it would prove to be a deadly journey. In a matter of time Elimelech dies and his son's marry two Moabite women, and within ten years all of the men have died. Ruth declares her love for her mother-in-law and refuses to leave her side, but Orpah walks away and returns to her parents. The famine has lifted and Naomi, along with Ruth, head back to Bethlehem.
Point to Ponder
Naomi makes a heart wrenching statement as they return to the homeland; she said ''I went out full but returned empty.'' In looking back she realized the mistake that was made, but as we all know, hindsight is twenty-twenty.
I - The Family of Elimelech (Ruth 1)
II - The Field's of Boaz (Ruth 2)
III - The Feelings of Ruth (Ruth 3)
IV - The Future of Israel (Ruth 4)
Point to Ponder
Ruth decides she needs to go and glean some food for Naomi and herself. Upon arriving in the fields of Bethlehem, the unseen hand of God guided her to the fields of Boaz. The workers took her in and she was busy gleaning among the laborers, when Boaz arrives. The moment he sees her it is love at first sight. He was much older but his heart did not know this, he loved her.
Point to Ponder
In chapter four all of the witnesses proclaimed that Boaz and his marriage to this Gentile bride would be as fruitful as that of Tamar and Judah. The son of Tamar and Judah was Pharez, and his ancestry is listed in the lineage of Jesus Christ, along with the great grandson of Boaz and Ruth, his n ...
