John 4:43-54
Introduction
You know growing up in a Baptist church as a kid I most likely would have described the Christian life in terms of camps, retreats, and conferences. In other words, if you had asked me as a kid or teenager what it meant to be a Christian, I likely would have answered something to the effect of, 'You got to be sure to go to the fall and spring retreats, for sure also to DiscipleNow and True Love Waits. Definitely a YWAV concert and, of course, (I mean it goes without saying) you must go to summer camp.' In other words, going to church each week was important and it was important to be sure you did the right things and avoided the wrong ones, but if you really wanted to get close to God you needed to go these events to really 'find Him.'

Now, you might be able to tell by this point that I'm being a little sarcastic. Teresa tells me I really need to watch my humor and not be so dry all the time, but you know I just can't help it. I mean don't get me wrong; there's nothing wrong with going on retreats or to special events or anything like that. The Lord has really blessed some teachers and speakers and we can all greatly benefit from sitting under their teaching. But I don't think it's just the depth of the teaching that we're so drawn to. I mean, if that were the case, there are hundreds of thousands of incredible books out there from over 2000 years of church history. In today's tec ...
