Introduction: Mark 15

This morning.... We are continuing our trek through the Gospel of Mark...
- There is something that happens when you work your way through a gospel...
- That thing that happens is that eventually you are going to find yourself face to face with a bloody cross.
- That is what is happening this morning.
- Today, we find ourselves in the moments just before Jesus is sentenced to die.
- This is a sober and serious passage.
- We're dealing crucifixion, blood, injustice, death.

We will see two people in this story... Pilate... And Barabbas...
- Both lives teach us something about how our relationship to God.

As always, let's jump in...
The background here is that Jesus was with his crew. Asked them to be on lookout while he went to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane. He is praying in the garden. He knows what is about to come.
- He becomes so anxious. And afraid... That he sweats blood from his pores.
- Peter, and the rest of the crew are sleeping.
- Judas and his crew come up... Betrays Jesus with a kiss... They start handcuffing Jesus and taking him away.
- Peter tries to stop them. Grabs his sword. Cuts a dude's ear off.
- Jesus says, ''Peter, don't do that.'' And he picks the guys ear off the ground and reattaches the ear.
- Then, he is carried off.
- Stands in front of a court. Jewish leaders. Caiaphas... they send him to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate.

NARRATIVE
[1] And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate.
The other gospels... Particularly, John's gospel tell us... When they brought Jesus to Pilate he immediately asks... ''What did this man do? What accusation do you bring?''
- They don't really give an answer... ''We wouldn't bring him to you unless he did somet ...
