DISPLAYING GOD'S GRACE IN THE INNER LIFE

Ephesians 5:18-21

In Ephesians 5 we have seen several areas
of our lives in which we are to display the grace of
God. We've learned that we are to display God's grace
by (1) walking as God's children and
(2) living as children of light.

Tonight we will take a more inward look at and
discuss the inner life of the believer. You see, it is
important that we walk outwardly in such a way as
to bring honor to the Lord. It is important that what
other people see of us be a good display of God's grace.

However, it is equally important for us to display
God's grace in those areas of our lives that are not
seen by others. Our private lives also need to display
God's grace.

What people see of us outwardly is very important
to God. That's why Paul told us in the first part of
Chapter 5 to walk like children of God and children
of light.

The private, intimate, hidden aspects of our lives
are equally important to God. God does not want us
to be all show. We are to inwardly display God's grace
as well as outwardly. In fact, if we attempt to display
God's grace outwardly without experiencing his grace
inwardly, we are hypocrites.

What I am trying to say is simply this--God wants
us to do more than simply act like Spirit-filled Christians,
He wants us to be genuinely Spirit-filled inwardly first
of all and then, as a result, display that Spirit-filling
outwardly as children of God and children of light.
