1 Samuel 13 - 18

INTRODUCTION

In recent years, it seems that Hollywood has discovered a theme that Americans are captivated by... It is the theme of how one sin can lead to another, which then leads to a complete spiral of destruction.

- Breaking Bad - A high school chemistry teacher cooks Crystal Methamphetamine to cover the costs of his cancer treatment and provide for his family... But it quickly spirals into murder, collusion, lying, massive billion-dollar drug empire... He set out to simply provide for his family (noble), but he got lost in his sin... And it destroyed his life, his family's life....
- There are other examples - House of Cards, Better Call Saul, I'm sure you can think of others....
Today, I want us to look at David's life... Where one sin led to another... Then another... Until it wreaked havoc on his family and his kingdom.

I want to read you the end of the story.... And then we will work from the beginning to get back to this point. (Take notes... I encourage you to go back and read this account in its entirety. Half hour)

2 SAMUEL 18:31-33
[31] And behold, the Cushite came, and the Cushite said, ''Good news for my lord the king! For the LORD has delivered you this day from the hand of all who rose up against you.'' [32] The king said to the Cushite, ''Is it well with the young man Absalom?'' And the Cushite answered, ''May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up against you for evil be like that young man.'' [33] And the king was deeply moved and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And as he went, he said, ''O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!''

- The story ends with David holding his dead son in his arms... Weeping... ''How did I end up here?''
- This whole story begins in 2 Samuel 12.... Goes on for 6 chapters.
