Galatians 1:1-10
INTRODUCTION
Before I became the pastor here at Crossroads, I had the privilege to serve as an associate pastor at a church.
-I served under the authority of our senior pastor. He was my pastor as well as my boss.
- His name was Derek Staples and he is one of the godliest men I know.
-He loves God and love the people he is called to pastor.
- Just to give you an idea of how much he loves his people (gave his kidney).
One night, he got a call from a woman in the church. Who had discovered that her husband was in an adulterous relationship. He had left his wife... Was staying the home of his mistress. His kids were confused why their dad wasn't at home... The wife was heartbroken.
So Pastor Derek got into car. Late at night. And drives to where this man was staying.
- He knocked on the door... And when the man asked, ''Who is it?'' he said, ''It's your pastor, and I am here to take you home to your wife and kids.''
- Of course, he told him to go away. But Derek was persistent.
- He said, ''I am not going to let you destroy your family and ruin your future. I'm here to take you home to your wife and kids.''
- The conversation continued for a while. But Derek persisted. ''I am your pastor. I'm not going to let you do this. I am going to take you home to your wife and kids.''
You may disagree... But I think that is what a good pastor does.
- A good pastor would never allow his people to destroy their lives without trying to do something. When a good pastor sees people he loves walking down a destructive path, he intervenes.
The Apostle Paul was a good pastor. Great pastor.
- The Book/Letter of Galatians. Is Paul seeing God's people being taken down a destructive path... And him intervening.
