INTRODUCTION: Today, we are beginning a study on what the Apostle Paul calls, ''The fruit of the Spirit.''We just finished studying the letter to the Galatians and in chapter 5 of that letter Paul says,

[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Paul says, if you are walking by the Spirit... These are the traits you will grow in... These are the virtues that your life will produce.

Today, we will begin with patience. Patience is the 4th of the fruit.
- But we will be covering Love, Joy, and Peace in the weeks of the Advent/Xmas season.

Here is what James (Jesus' half brother says about patience). JAMES 5:7-12

[7] Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. [8] You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. [9] Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door. [10] As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. [11] Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

- Oysters. Because oysters are in the sea... They often have Grains of sand that make their way into their shell as intruders/irritants.
- This is not uncommon. Usually, the oyster, through various means is able to expel the grain of sand from its shell. Problem solved.

But sometimes, that grain of sand/ that irritant is so lodged within the shell. That no matter how hard the oyster tries... No matter how hard it works... It cannot ...
