INTRODUCTION:

Today, immediately following our worship service, we are having Crossroads 101.
- I know many of you have been attending Crossroads for a bit, and maybe you are considering making this your permanent church family... Or maybe you just want to know more about who we are... You have questions...
- In this class/forum, we take time to explain our beliefs, vision, values as a church.
- Who we are... What we're about... Where we're headed.
- One of the things that I always talk about is my preaching philosophy.
- If you become a part of Crossroads, you will learn very quickly that we practice something that is called Expository Preaching.
- Which means that ~75-85% of the time, we are working through a book of the Bible.

Some churches practice what is called ''topical preaching'' - Meaning, they will say ''for the next 6 weeks, we're going to teach on Humility... Or Finances... Marriage...''
- They structure their teaching around topics.
- We do this, at times. We've done spiritual warfare... Vision series... We have a teaching series coming up on generosity...
- But, the overwhelming majority of the time, we are preaching through a book of the Bible.
- 1and2 Samuel, Galatians, Mark, Ecclesiastes, Jonah.... Now, 1 Peter.

1. Teaches us to love the Scriptures... Give us a steady diet of the Bible - You get OT, NT, gospels, prophets, poetry, narrative, etc.

2. Protects the church from me simply preaching my opinions... Or my favorite topics...

3. And... It guarantees that we won't avoid the hard passages of the Bible.
- Because... When you preach verse-by-verse through the Bible... What inevitably happens.... You have to preach some really difficult passages.

Today is one of those days.... Unpopular subject matter... Submission to authority.
- Americans hate submission. And we are suspicious of authority.
