INTRODUCTION
Many of you know the name... Dave Grohl... He was the drummer for Nirvana. And is now the front man for the Foo Fighters.
-I follow him on Twitter... And a few years ago.... He was preparing for an upcoming tour... And he tweeted out this photo with the caption ''First practice for the new tour. Get ready, Mexico!''
- I looked at that... And my first thought was... That's what real leadership looks like...
- Leadership bleeds for the people it serves... Sacrifices...
We've been studying the letter of 1 Peter for several weeks now... Today, Peter addresses church leaders, and specifically pastors. On how to lead a congregation
- What we find is that... Pastors are to demonstrate their leadership in the church... Not demanding their rights... Or leading by sovereign decree...
- There are many spiritual leaders that use their authority to serve themselves....
- But true Spiritual leadership is sacrificing one's self for the sake of others.
- Leadership, especially as a follower of Jesus... Means giving your life (your blood) for those you serve.
Peter writes in 1 Peter 5:
[1] So I exhort the elders In the NT, the authors use the words ''Elder, Pastor, and Overseer'' synonymously and interchangeably... Also, ''elder'' does not necessarily refer to age, but to spiritual maturity... Peter is addressing the pastors of these churches who were reading this letter.... [1] So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: [2] shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; [3] not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.
