Ecclesiastes 3:1-15
INTRODUCTION
Ecclesiastes 3. Before we get into this week's passage... We have to do a bit of review.
That's the way this book works... it all sort of builds on itself.
If you haven't been around in the last few weeks... the book of Ecclesiastes is the musings of a man we believe to King Solomon.
Very wise king. Very wealthy man... very powerful/ influential man...
He has tested every pleasure that you can pursue on this earth. (Wealth, sexuality, fame, influence, all of it...) To find out what gives our lives meaning... Purpose...
He tests it all and says, ''It's all kind of empty.''
Every pursuit... Every accomplishment... Every pleasure... Is unable to fill that longing that you have in your soul for transcendence.
Some of you, as we have studied this book, in your heart... You want to prove Solomon wrong... But you can't really find a good argument to counter what he is saying...
And if you look around in popular culture-You will see that Solomon isn't the only one saying these things...
William Shakespeare (Macbeth) - ''Life's but a walking shadow. . . a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury Signifying nothing.''
Kurt Cobain - Revoluntionized RandR (Suicide note) - You sad little, unappreciative, Pisces... Jesus man! Why don't you just enjoy it? I don't know.
Tom Brady - ''Why do I have three Super Bowl rings and still think there's something greater out there for me? I mean, maybe a lot of people would say, 'Hey man, this is what is.' I reached my goal, my dream, my life. I think, 'God, it's got to be more than this.'
Jim Carey - ''I wish everyone could get rich and famous and everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that's not the answer.'
John Mayer -
