INTRODUCTION

3x ''Christian'' is used in the NT. 270x ''Disciple''

- NT is clear... Being a disciple of Jesus is the essence of Christianity.
- (Xians often throw this term ''discipleship'' around.) But what does it mean?

What is a discipleship?
Discipleship is...
- The process of following Jesus. The life of a disciple.

Dallas Willard
- ''A disciple is anyone whose ultimate goal is to live as Jesus would if he were in their place.''

The question we need to ask... For each person... What does being a disciple of Jesus look like for you? If Jesus were you... If he had your commute, lived on your block, worked with your co-workers, had your genetic makeup, had your same hobbies... How would he live his life?

- How would he approach your friends... Your obligations... Your neighbors? If he were living your life.
- Clothing designer? Hair stylist? Teacher? Artist? Student? Dog walker? Social worker?
-How does it look as a Mother? Father? Neighbor?
-What does following Jesus look like in your specific situation?

In Mark 1, we see Jesus calling his first disciples.
16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 ''Come, follow me,'' Jesus said, ''and I will send you out to fish for people.'' 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.

19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

''Follow me... Be my disciples.'' This is the call of Jesus.

Three steps of Discipleship that I want you to see this morning.
