We are studying through the Gospel of Mark.

Mark wrote this gospel (20 yrs after Jesus death) because lot of people were saying a lot of things about Jesus. Giving their own interpretation. All these myths.

- So Mark (with the help of Peter) is out to set the record straight. To show us the real Jesus.

This is what is needed today. For the church of God to tell the story of who the real Jesus was.

- Because it seems that so many want hijack the life of Jesus to fit their own agenda. (Jesus is conservative, Jesus is liberal, Jesus is anti-establishment, Jesus is my Homeboy).
- It seems today that every political/social cause, right or left... Claims Jesus.
- It seems we have created in our own image. Salad bar Jesus.

Mark writes this gospel because he doesn't want us to create and worship a Jesus of our own choosing... He wants to show us who the real Jesus is. Then call us to worship that Jesus.
- This is not simply a Jesus everyone is comfortable with. But it is the Jesus we need...

Today... I want us to look at Mark 1... Start in v. 21... Walk all the way through the chapter.
- It's a lot of verses... Several different stories... But all scholars agree that these verses encompass one 24-period of Jesus' life.
- A day in the life of Jesus. We're going to discover who the real Jesus is by spending a day with him.

21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.

AS ONE WHO HAD AUTHORITY
This is the first time Jesus has preached a sermon. He's beginning his public ministry right here.
- So far in Mark... Jesus has been baptized... He's been tempted by Satan... he has called his disciples... Assembled his team.
- Now, he begins his ministry. He begins it by prea ...
