INTRODUCTION

We are going to be in Mark 7 again this week... We'll finish the chapter... As well as part one in our study through Mark... All Things Well (Healings of Jesus)...

- We will begin advent series next week... Then pick back up with Part Two of Mark in January.

For those of you who are in one of our small groups... Several of you have been emailing me/texting me... about what is going on in this passage.

- This is certainly the most confusing passage we've seen in the gospel of Mark.
- And in some ways... It's very offensive. Jesus says some things that disrupt our cultural understanding of meek and mild hippie Jesus... Who never hurts anyone's feelings.

In this passage, Jesus is going to say some very harsh words to the woman in the story.

- It is easy for us to get offended... But I'm going ask you to be patient... So you that you can see what is going on.

One of the themes that comes up throughout the gospels is we must lower themselves in order to receive Christ's mercy.

- Or say it this way... For us to experience the good news, we have to first admit that there is bad news...

- For us to experience God's grace and mercy, we have to come to the realization that we do not deserve it. We are not worthy.

This passage is a story about the grace of Jesus and our own unworthiness.

Two stories. They each stand on their own... But together they tell a story.
- Think of it like Star Wars... Or your favorite television show.

First episode teaches us.... How we approach God.
The second episode teaches us... How God approaches us.

APPROACHING GOD
