Have you ever let your schedule carry you in the wrong direction? It happened several years ago with the transportation system in Great Britain. Complaints were mounting over empty buses that were driving past bus stops full of people. After a thorough investigation the reason was determined. The bus drivers said they needed to pass up the crowded bus stops, so they could stay on schedule.

Schedules are a necessary part of life, but they must never overtake our primary objectives. Schedules do not exist for schedules sake, but to accomplish a purpose.

If you have ever watched the President of the United States deliver the State of the Union Address in recent years, you know at some point in his speech he will point to the balcony and introduce an ordinary citizen as a real hero in this country. You may not know but that custom began when President Ronald Reagan introduced a man named Larry Skutnik. To this day reporters will ask presidential aides the question: ''Who are the 'Skutniks' this year?''
