Psalm 107:2
The Bible says, ''Let the redeemed of the Lord say so...'' I have been saying so now for a lot of years. Joseph of Arimathea was a secret disciple of Jesus. However, when he witnessed the crucifixion, he came out of his seclusion and asked permission to bury the body of Jesus.
One of the high-water marks of my ministry was when I asked people to stand up and give their testimonies one Sunday night. This was a planned service; but it seemed that I was just calling people randomly. When the invitation was given, four women came down to me and said, ''Preacher, if you had called on me tonight, I did not have a testimony to give. I want a testimony.'' They both got one that night.
What is a testimony? It is a sharing of one's personal experience with Christ. Vance Havner was a great evangelist from North Carolina. He was preaching in Charlotte, North Carolina one night. He walked down the isle and stopped and called on a very proper looking woman with a hat on to give her testimony. She stood up and quoted every scripture she knew. Dr. Havner said, ''You don't have to quote the scriptures to God. He wrote them!''
People give amazing responses when asked to give their testimony. They want to talk about catechism, baptism, church membership, and communion.
