Hebrews 10:25
Have you ever noticed how many folks are actively involved in NOT going to church? I am sure there are numerous reasons for their absence.
In my early ministry I was serving two churches by preaching every other Sunday at each one of them. I was at the store one day and some men were gathered around the old pot-bellied stove. One of the men told me he went to a certain church. He didn't know it, but I was the pastor of that church. I told him I had been the pastor there for eight months and that I had not seen him. He said, ''Preacher, we have had a lot of sickness this winter!''
The excuses I have heard for not going to church go something like this: My parents did not take me when I was growing up. I got my feelings hurt and decided it would be easier to withdraw into spiritual inactivity. I don't like this preacher as well as I liked the last one. My parents made me go when I was a child. I was faithful until I went to college or joined the military. We could go on ad infinitum!
I can think of a lot of reasons people are actively involved in NOT going to church. But I confess...I can not think of ONE good one.
I grew up in church. I attended BIG church before the nurseries came into being. I have been pinched, threatened, and given that look that only a mother can give in church.
