-1:19 give the outline of the book. ''Write the things which you have seen;'' And the things which are; And the things which are to come.''

-The past was the vision he had of Jesus. The present were his knowledge of the churches of Asia. And the future was what would take place from chapter 4 to the end of the book.

-These letters are for every church in every age. V. 7 ''He that hath ears let him hear.'' In CB radio dialect ''Hey good buddy, got your ears on.''

-This church was doing many things right; but it had one fatal flaw. Jesus was coming in second. Nobody really remembers who comes in second in sports. The emphasis is on winning. It is not in how you play the game, it is in who comes in first.

-Sports should not be a religion and sometimes coming in second is good.

-It is not good in Church. Matthew 6:33 ''Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all of his righteousness and all these other things will be added unto you.''

-Are we a church where Jesus is coming in second? Is Jesus coming in second in your life? What is more important to you: a widescreen TV or your tithe; 60 minutes on Sunday night or church; prayer meeting or sports?

-In every one of these letter to the churches there is a commendation, a complaint, and a cure.

1. THE COMMENDATION

1. It was a devoted church.

''I know your works.'' Jesus observed their service. This was a growing, hustling, bustling fellowship. They were busy as bees. They had a graded choir program, a music program, children, youth, etc. It was an active church.

Mary had a little lamb

It grew to be a sheep

It joined a Southern Baptist Church

And died from lack of sleep

''I know your labor.'' The word labor is different from the word works in the Greek. Works was a reference to the service of the church. Labor was a reference to the sacrifice of the church. They were full speed ahead. ''It pays to serve Jesus.' ...
