Choosing a church is a matter of vital importance. It amazes me as to how trivial a matter this is to some propsective couples. It is like it really doesn't matter where they go to church as long as they go somewhere. I guess that is like saying, ''It doesn't matter what we eat as long as we eat.'' One can survive a long time on junk food. However, that doesn't mean it is good for you.

Thyatira was a liberal church. I am not talking about their generosity; I am talking about their theology. It had some false teaching going on in the church and the majority of members did not want to rock the boat.

You may need to know the definitions of liberal, conserative, and fundamentalist. We are a conservative church. You would know the differences in these churches if you went to one of them. Liberal churches are foten politically correct. They water down the Word of God.

-Conservative churches stick to the Scriptures. Fundamentalist churches are often harsh, crude, and mean. They love to pick fights. They have to have an enemy. They are like the porcupine. They have some good points but you cannot get close to them without getting stuck!

This is the longest letter written to a church that we don't know much about. The city was located 40 miles from Pergamos. It was a military city and a buffer city. It offered the first line of defence and was often ravaged and then rebuilt.

It was an industrial city. There were a number of trade guilds organized around different skills. We still have that today. The city was known for their purple dyes. That area of Turkey produces beautiful oriental rugs today. There were temples attached to these guilds and loyalty was expected.
