No Doubt about It
Rex Yancey
1 John 5:13
I know something about all of you today. You are either saved and know it, or lost and know it, or lost and don't know it, or saved and don't know it.
Someone wrote this little couplet saying,
Tis a thing I long to know,
Oft it gives me anxious thought.
Do I love the Lord or no?
Am I saved or am I not?
A lot of believers, if honest, would say, ''I'm not sure about my relationship with Christ. I think I'm saved. I want to believe I am saved, but I am not sure. I have these nagging doubts. I would really like to know if there is any way to know that I am saved.
I am happy to tell you this morning that God has given us His Word so that you can live with confident assurance of your salvation.
-No other world religion can give you that assurance. The Buddhist looks for Nirvana. Nirvana is a state where you get through the eight fold enlightenment and then you become extinct. You've reached that blessed something called nothing!
The Hindu looks for Brahma. Brahma is that great god who pervades the universe. You get to know him through the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. If you did well, you will come back in a higher state. If you did badly, you will come back in a lower state, like an insect, cow, or monkey.
If you are a Moslem, the ultimate is wine, women and song. You get there, maybe, through a five fold step. You repeat a creed, give alms to the poor, make a pilgrimage to Mecca, pray five times daily and observe the fast of Ramadan. The fanatics say if you die killing an infidel you will go to paradise with 70 virgins.
-Christianity says you repent of your sins and trust the finished work of Christ for your salvation. Ask a Hindu, or Buddhist, or Moslem if they know for sure they will go to heaven and they will answer, ''NO.'' Only evangelical Christianity can answer with a resounding ''Yes.''
I want us to analyze doubt this morning.
