Genesis 15:1; Genesis 22:15-18
Our own Jess Yardman and DJ Cieply got married on Friday. Jess is the director of our children's ministry. She does a great job with that and we are very grateful for her. It has been fun to be in the office every day with a young woman who is looking forward to her own wedding. As many of you remember, it's such a fun time of life, preparing to be married, and there is so much hope. There is so much looking forward. To some degree, all of life is like that. We are a people who like to look forward. In fact, we are such forward looking people that it can be difficult to enjoy the moments that we are actually in. We are a future looking people.
Why is that? It has everything to do with what we were talking about last week. If you were here last week we talked about this amazing promise that God gave to Eve in Genesis 3 - there was an offspring in her that would undo the curse, that would undo sin, that would crush the head of the serpent and make all things right. This offspring would undo the curse of death.
We know that things are not as they are supposed to be, and even in the best things it's like there is something missing, it's not quite perfect. So we keep looking forward to when maybe one day it will be perfect, when all will be right, when finally things will be as they should be. We long for a culmination. The promise of things to come is strong, and it's something that all of us, to one degree or another, are holding on to. So as we continue our Sons of Scripture series today we will look at the coming of Christ through the sons that are being born throughout the Bible. I have two major points:
1. The Promise of the Future
2. The Way to the Promise
THE PROMISE OF THE FUTURE
Where we pick up in our text today, Abraham, or Abram, is having one of those moments. Everything had gone great for Abram. He was wealth ...
