After Adam and Eve sinned by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the next sin recorded in the Bible is that Cain killed his brother Abel because he was jealous of him.

Hundreds of years later in the time of Noah God made a general statement about how sinful all the people of the earth had become. Genesis 6:5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Throughout the rest of the OT every kind of sin is recorded: lying, cheating, stealing, greed, lust, adultery, murder and rape. These examples show how evil the people of God had become.

Psalm 14:3 They have all turned aside, they have become corrupt; There is none who does good, not even one.

To appease the anger of God over sin a sacrifice had to be made. In the OT the people offered animal sacrifices for their sins. In the NT Jesus becomes the once for all sacrifice for our sins.

SAVIOR OF THE WORLD :31

Jesus (972x) - is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Joshua which literally means Jehovah saves or salvation is of Jehovah.

Joshua's parents as slaves in Egypt believed that only Jehovah could deliver them from their slavery because their relatives had been there for over 400 years. They named their son - Joshua in recognition of their faith that God would deliver them. Exodus 14:13 Moses said to the people, ''Fear not, stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord . . . for the Egyptians whom you see today, you will never see again.''
