If you brought your bible, open it to 1 Corinthians 8. We're in a little series in 1 Corinthians called 'Unselfie'. A selfie is putting yourself in the center of the frame and the focus is on you. Unselfie, of course, is the exact opposite. That's what we are called to be as followers of Jesus.
It's hard to believe it's been over 20 years now that Jeff Foxworthy burst onto the comedy scene with his hilarious and insightful 'You Might Be a Redneck' jokes. I was born in Kentucky and have deep family roots in Alabama, so when I hear these jokes I feel like someone really knows my family. He's got hundreds, but let me give you a few of my favorites.
You might be a redneck if directions to your house include ''Turn off the paved road.''
You might be a redneck if you've ever cut your grass and found a car.
You might be a redneck if you own a home that is mobile and 5 cars that aren't.
You might be a redneck if someone asks to see your ID and you show them your belt buckle.
You might be a redneck if you think a turtleneck is a key ingredient for soup.
You might be a redneck if your dad walks you to school because you're in the same grade.
You might be a redneck if you've ever barbecued Spam on the grill.
You might be a redneck if you think a subdivision is part of a math problem.
You might be a redneck if your stereo speakers used to belong to the Drive-in Theater.
You might be a redneck if you think ''taking out the trash'' means taking your in-laws to a movie.
You might be a redneck if your family tree doesn't have any branches.
Believe it or not, I want us to take a similar approach to studying our text today. The title of my message is 'You Might Be a Weaker Believer If...'.
